Blade Runner is the soundtrack for Ridley Scott's 1982 science-fiction noir film Blade Runner, composed by Greek electronic musician Vangelis. It has received acclaim as among Vangelis's best work and an influential work in the history of electronic music. It was nominated in 1983 for a BAFTA and Golden Globe as best original score. The score evokes the film's bleak futurism with an emotive synthesizer-based sound, drawing on the jazz scores of classic film noir as well as neo-classical elements and. Though Ridley Scotts seminal science-fiction film was released in 1982, its financial failure and other factors meant that the soundtrack album was not released until 1994, by which time audiences had gained an appreciation for both the film itself and Vangelis' trailblazing electronic score. Many of these tracks appeared on Vangelis' 1980 album See You Later, but they were jazz interpretations of the music rather than the music heard in the film. In the liner notes for the official recording, Vangelis wrote . Blade Runner. Your Rating. Blade Runner was one of the finest sci-fi movies ever made, yet, due to contractual difficulties, Vangelis' moody score was never made available. But here 'tis, with some soundscapes not featured in the film. The whole soundtrack album put together by Vangelis, a seamless mix of his epic score with choice dialogue from the film, is engrossing and trippy and relaxing and cosmic and sci-fi noir, etc. You probably own this on CD already. This pressing is actually - very good : It's mellow and sparkly in a way the CD isn't - vinyl seems to suit the synthscapes very well, and it sounds really good when you turn it up past a civilised listening volume also a sign of a nice pressing

Bought new; record looked flat, but tonearm was bobbing up-down and sideways; distorted at volume peaks; generally noisy. The store gave me another new replacement - same problems. Must be a bad pressing.
One of the "assiest" records I've ever listened to, pressing quality is horse shit, only for people who want to show it off on their wall. Only bought this because it was the only reasonably valued issue out at the time of release! Much better off buying the latest reissue that has just come out on standard 180gram.
Exactly what I did, listened once and went right on the wall!
Several tracks littered with pops, made up for by a few tracks that sound sublime
This RSD pic lp release is absolute shit. Yes, a picture disc has background noise, but this has crackling and popping all over the place on both sides. No other pic lp I own has nothing like this going on. Went to a local record store and properly cleaned the record with their machine, no effect what so ever - tested with the Technics SL-1200 the shop has and with my own Pro-Ject. The mix & master is off on this release too. This could have a proper jacket and an inner sleeve, but just has a die cut jacket and a tight heavy plastic sleeve. A rip off if anything is. Hope to score one of the previous versions...
My pressing was mostly okay with the exception of Blade Runner (End Titles) which was totally unlistenable. The sounds levels are jumping all over the place.
Experienced the same problem with two copies I bought. Total loss of money that could have been spent on a proper release from the past. Hoping for another repress though.
Same here. ........ Please enter at least 7 more words
It is a picture disc pressing so people,do not expect any great sound!Matrix is pressed on a thin foil and glued to plastic. No hi-fi here.Picture discs are only a collectable and nothing more.Buy a real record if you like a good sound.
At last a reply from someone who speaks sense!! Picture discs are nothing more than collectables, I do not know why people are expecting super perfect hi-fi sound from such things... I've left mine sealed as just a Blade Runner collectable display...I have the SACD version of the soundtrack if i want Hi Fidelity.
A pic disc in 2017 has NO excuse to not be crystal clear! This isn't the pic disc's of the past decades.
Agreed. The prices of the prior vinyl release are simply inflated and outrageous. Seems like these vendors aren't moving them either so why not charge a real price so people can buy and enjoy them?
Well i wish there was one we could find for sub $300.
Skunk Black
Mine has background rumble on both sides, and side A distorts all the sub low end and highs. I was wondering if I just got a bad lemon but for what I'm reading in the comments seems like it's on all of them, I can deal with the background noise but the distortion is very distracting and really takes away from the details in music. It's a bummer.
This is a beautiful release with a not so good pressing, as expected from pictures discs, even though I found some good picture discs releases from time to time.Start playing side A and I can hear surface noise (as expected) but as the music and dialogues starts I could forget the surface noise, just to be reminded of it from time to time, mostly between tracks.Side B starts worst than side A, with a much louder surface noise, but, once again, I early start to forget it once I get involved in this timeless and out of this world music. During the two first tracks I can hear some clicks and plops, that usually really anoies me, but not this time. Side B continues is course, running very smoothly until I can spot again the surface noise, mostly in between tracks, but not as loud as in the begining of side B.I tend to get really irritated and dispointed with clicks, plops and surface noise, but this time it didn't hapen that way, perahps because I was, somehow, expecting this or because I easilly get transported into the music... by the music... Out of this world... into the Futurist World of Tomorrow happening today.(of course I would love a cleaner sound pressing, but I have the 2015's 180g black vinyl edition if I want to hear a not noisy pressing...)
The quality is poor, but I'm a huge fan of the movie and it would be a great framed record.
any copies with bad pop in blade runner blues? just got a replacement copy from store (NYC) and it has same thing..
SRC vinyl in Niagara Falls had a few of these left at $30CAD - they had a few on the shelves 3pm on Saturday when I found my copy
Unfortunately I have a bad pressing. The groove on side B is off-centre, which makes the pitch of the music constantly but slightly go up and down. Totally unlistenable. I have to return it to the shop and I don't think there will be any replacements available as this was a limited run. Very sad about this, because side A doesn't have this issue and sounds absolutely wonderful, even though it has that background rumble at the start of the side that is common with picture discs. As an other commenter already said, this background noise isn't noticeable when the music is playing. I like the warm low-end of this pressing and the shiny high-end frequencies.Final question: does anybody else have the issue with side B that I mentioned above? I can't imagine I am the only one.
In the end I decided to frame it and put it on my wall at a prominent spot in my living room. I still think it's a beautiful production to look at.
Yes, mine is terrible. Noise between songs, pops, and Side-B absolutely shocking. Pressed off center, constant pitch change which makes it unlistenable. How this ever made it through any sort of QC is beyond me. I guess they don't have any QC is the only explanation I can guess.
Thank you for your reply. It's a pity that they released this batch with so many quality issues. They shouldn't have opted for picture discs, even if they look cool.
Yes, my copy is like this as well. Side B is very far off-center. Looks like there was no QC on these at all...
Aren't picture discs renowned for being of terrible sound quality? I thought they were a no-go for a serious sound connoisseurs? I've always thought of them as novelty items
Yeah they are. Should be no surprise to see issues with quality. I have a few pic discs and they all sound like trash. I haven't tossed this one on my turntable yet but i imagine it's par for the course judging by the comments.
My disc purchased in Chicago IL sounds like it was mastered off of a used LP complete with pops and hisses. I'm a semi-pro DJ and use quality cartridges and pro turntables so it's not like I stuck this on a vintage 60s record player with the original needle and bore extra grooves in the vinyl. Nonetheless, I'm happy to finally have the Vangelis version without paying the filthy, outrageously ridiculous prices of the numbered red vinyl editions.
Pssst.... there are un-numbered versions of the same AP, red vinyl version for significantly less money.
Mine has background distortion on both sides. Not that noticeable once music kicks in, but still disappointing
Anyone else experiencing distortion in the second half of Blush Response? It sounds like some kind of vibration... I'm hearing this on two turntables. Rest of the record sounds brilliant. Is this just my copy?
Mine sounds also bad. I think most of the copy sounds terrible.
Gold as Heart
Yeah, that's what I'm hearing. Damn... it's especially harsh on the chanting vocals. It kind of ruins the experience of listening to the album. Where did you buy your copy? Maybe this can be tracked down to a manufacturing plant or something?
I'm experiencing the same thing Christian. It's almost as if the speakers can't handle some of the louder passages in the track -- like the big synth swells and boomier bass parts.. I'm thinking it's just the pressing though, I don't think it's our individual copies?
Absolutely brilliant soundtrack! Not the complete score of the film but that doesn't detract from the quality of the music. Some tracks have dialogue from the film over them in a kind of ghostly quality, so your mileage may vary as to whether this improves your listen or not. Being a picture disc, the quality of the pressing seems like it has taken a bit of a hit; crackling is noticeable between tracks but a good clean might be all that's needed to fix it. Either way, I'm glad to be able to own a copy of this wonderful music.
i thought picture disk would be a dealbreaker, but i must admit - it sounds really ok. audio fidelity probably sounds better, but i never heard it so i can't judge... all in all, not dissapointed. ????
Funny duck
Audio fidelity sound perfect. My copy of the picture disc sounds terrible.
