As it turns out, Judy finds Cornershop riding a very, very comfortable groove, replicating the sound of feel of the bright, boogying Handcream while stripping away any of its intensity. That means that this is the friendliest batch of neo-glam to come down the pike in quite some time, never catching fire but never really striking a match, either, and it's the least adventurous dose of eclecticism, too, with nary a sitar, Mellotron, or sample out of place. Judy Sucks a Lemon for Breakfast is a 2009 studio album by British band Cornershop. It was their first album in seven years following 2002's Handcream for a Generation. The band were dropped by Beggars Banquet Records after disagreements about the promotion of their previous album, and Tjinder Singh explained the reasons for the seven-year gap before this album: We needed to take a break from doing music. I didn't stop working but the climate didn't seem very fertile for what we were doing. It was. Songs in album Cornershop - Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast 2009. Their last album, 2002s Handcream for a Generation, felt like the culmination of the bands incredible pastiche of influences from the 60s and 70s meeting the 90s, through the filter of a skewered glam rock that favored sitars and samples over the usual lead guitar heroics. 2010s Judy plays like a comfortable follow-up, as if the long delay between releases never happened and the world stayed in the same place. But theres a timeless allure to the pumped-up pop of Soul School where the sunshine practically reflects off the sidewalk and hits you square on the shoulder. The less than a mi. The gloriously titled Judy Sucks a Lemon for Breakfast picks up where Handcream left off. Somethings gone badly wrong with pop in those seven years, and Tjinder Singh and his songwriting partner Ben Ayres who still holds downa day job as a press officer for Rough Trade Records know it. Much of Cornershops sixth album is concerned with pinpointing what that something is, while simultaneously doing a little to put it right. Seven years on from their last album, 2002's Handcream For A Generation, and 11 years since their glorious Brimful Of Asha single, buoyed by a Fatboy Slim remix, made it to the top of the UK chart, they now return with their fifth album proper, the bizarrely-titled Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast. Long gone now is their passion for agit-pop rabble-rousing, as typified by 1993's clattery debut single, In The Days Of Ford Cortina Ð but actually, there's something implicitly political about Cornershop's current incarnation. Arguably, these days Cornershop are at their best when dispensing concise pop. 2 Soul School. 3 Half Brick. 4 Judy Sucks a Lemon for Breakfast. Cornershop - Judy Sucks a Lemon For Breakfast.
