The group, Caribbean Jazz Project, combines a unique blend of jazz, salsa and all else that originates from south of the border. What sets this group apart is their charming appeal, which can range all the way from the casual listener to the jazz aficionado. This group, it seems to me, is on the doorstep of opening up a new idiom with regards to the Latin American fusion into the jazz media View wiki. Caribbean Jazz Project was a Latin jazz band founded in 1993. The original group featured Dave Samuels, Paquito D'Rivera, and Andy Narell. After their second album, D'Rivera and Narell left the group, although both returned as guest stars. Under Samuels' leadership, the group explored different genres of latin jazz with a changing membership and numerous guest artists. The band released nine albums under the Caribbean Jazz Project name and one as the featured backing band for jazz singer Diane Schuur. New Horizons is a world fusion music album recording by CARIBBEAN JAZZ PROJECT released in 2000 on CD, LPVinyl andor cassette. 2011 г. Caribbean Jazz Project New Horizons . Ivory Coast Album Version. Caribbean Jazz Project. New Horizons comes from a new incarnation of the Caribbean Jazz Project, an ensemble that has been blending contemporary jazz and LatinCaribbean music since 1995. Originally, the band was co-lead byvibraphonist and marimba player Dave Samuels, saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera, and steel drummer Andy Narell. Since Samuels' recent signing with Concord, however, the group has been reconfigured, with Narell and D'Rivera replaced by guitarist Steve Khan and flutist Dave Valentin. The new band's first album, New Horizons, finds the trio backed by bassist John Benitez and percussionists Richie Flores and Robert Vilera. New Horizons, 2000. Descarga Canelon, 05:39. Ivory Coast, 06:57. As the sole remaining member of the original Caribbean Jazz Project and one of the albums principal composers, vibes and marimba player Dave Samuels is at the core of New Horizons. Teamed now with flutist Dave Valentin and guitarist Steve Khan plus bassist John Benitez, and percussionists Richie Flores and Robert Vilera, the CJP is actually a new band with a new sound. The vibes and flute combine to create a gentle breeze on Khans tropical opener Descarga Canelon. Meanwhile, Khans guitar stealthily threatens the tranquillity with its sharper edge. An important contributing factor to the o. New Horizons conjures images of pristine beaches, tropical breezes and swaying palms. Samuels was wise to switch instrumentation when DRivera and Narell split the band. No way he could have replaced those two. No such concerns here. Flores and Vilera generate enough tropical heat to melt all the snow in my driveway, and Samuels delivers one of his finest performances on record
